Enjoy our Top 10 Moments from Summer 2025!

Butterflies have been a-flutter throughout our Summer activities! We’ve taken part in The Big Butterfly Count, and thoroughly enjoyed spotting a wide and colourful variety this summer.

“I really found it wonderful to just sit and watch a leaf for 35 mins as it captured the sunlight like a lantern.” Lesley enjoyed the calm and connection of our Nature Journal Workshop in York Cemetery.

We’ve also learnt about different grasses this Summer. We felt the softness of Yorkshire Fog grasses on Hob Moor. And some reveled in running through the grasses!

It’s the people who’ve made Take the Green Route! such a vibrant and enjoyable project. The simple joy of being outdoors and experiencing nature connection together is what it’s all about! Christine says “I feel part of a community and have really enjoyed sharing discoveries with a lovely group of diverse people”.

Our Nature Rides have taken us all over the South of York. Gill says, “Gaining confidence and joining the weekly rides in our beautiful local open spaces has opened my eyes to the rich nature all around us and what I can personally do to contribute and take care of it.”

Rowntree Park features in many of our activities. This Summer, we’ve wheeled under the trees, paused in the shade of woods to listen to birdsong, tasted greengages in the wildlife area and watched the swan family grow up. Hours of pleasure in this special place.

From Tufted Vetch to Sneezeweed, the Summer’s wildflowers have been a colourful backdrop to our activities. We’ve constantly been surprised and delighted by new varieties popping up!

The excitement of Tansy Beetle spotting! Whether it’s a first ever encounter or revisiting, this jewelled green beetle always brings smiles!

Our Summer Nature Walks have meant over 90 hours of walking and nature connection for our participants. We’ve enjoyed experiencing the changing sounds, smells and sights of Summer on our nature-rich routes over the past 8 weeks.

Finally, our brilliant volunteer pedallers have taken over 60 rides out across York over the Summer Programme. We’ve had requests for day trips to Scarborough and to stay out all day from our passengers!
