York Bike Belles Team Volunteers – role descriptions
These volunteer roles are part-time and flexible, based in and around York. We ask that you commit to a minimum of a day a month (could be a few hours to a full day, during the day, at evenings or the weekend). We ask that you walk and cycle as a priority during your work for us. We provide all necessary support and training and, depending on the work agreed, we may need to carry out a DBS check.
Purpose of roles
We’d like you to work within the Bike Belles team to encourage, inspire and enable residents of York to walk and cycle more often every day, for the benefit of health, community life and the environment. We are currently (January 2018) looking for volunteers to help with 3 tasks in particular – community conversations, events and audiovisual promotion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community conversations
To help promote York Bike Belles’ programme and the benefits of everyday walking and cycling in general to the York community via community conversations, networking, attending meetings and events, holding stalls, giving presentations and anything else creative that spreads the word within the community! If capacity, also to help with the website, social media, articles, newsletters, and press and radio interviews.
2. Events
To help deliver our year-round public programme of walking and cycling activities, which may include led rides and walks, bike maintenance workshops, bike buddying, #travelwithtots tryouts, bike loan, advice and training sessions, family activities, social evening events, community stalls and other creative walking and cycling interventions.
3. Audiovisual promotion
To help record York Bike Belles’ activities in photo, audio and video form and collect case studies or ‘stories’ from participants and produce them in written, audio and video form.
Anything else reasonable to enable us to meet our objectives. We are open to new ideas!
