“It reminds me of my childhood, walking with my Dad and our dog, a time when we lived away from the pressures of modern life” said John.
John holds the amazing accolade of attending every single one of the Nature Walks in our Summer Nature Programme 2024.
John spends most of his time volunteering in Addiction Recovery services in York and surrounding areas. On seeing a message on social media about our programme, he felt that it provided a golden opportunity to get out and about in his local area, learn about nature and have some time just for him.
John attended all of our Wednesday Nature Walks on the Summer’s 10-week Nature Programme. The walks enable people to learn about and connect with the nature around them in a small friendly group.
“I really look forward to the walk each week, learning about nature and I enjoy meeting all the different people who come along.” John uses the hour’s walk to switch off, reset and recharge.
The walks have brought back happy childhood memories for John of walking with his Dad and have rekindled his love of the natural world. His table is now full of books about nature, he just wishes he had more time to delve into them!
By planning the walks into his week he knows that he will at least get that hour doing something he likes, just for him.
