Summer 2021 Nature Time Walks

**Here’s some of the Nature Time Walks we enjoyed in the Summer of 2021**

Experience the delights of nature nearby!

Join an inspiring nature experience with us in and around York. You’ll learn more about nature, meet new friends, and enjoy some gentle exercise in the fresh air.

We usually head out on Sunday afternoons, around 2pm. The walks and rides are a short distance. We move at an easy pace, with plenty of time to enjoy and talk about the natural world around us, and with breaks as desired. Please allow up to two hours in total. We’ll also be inviting some ‘special guests’ from York’s nature, mindfulness and creative scene along to enhance the experience – more soon!

Sunday 16 May – Meet the remarkable Knavesmire Trees

FULLY BOOKED.

The Knavesmire is an ancient stray, one of the oldest, undeveloped green spaces in the city. Its edges are dotted with the most remarkable ancient trees, some over 200 years old. This includes a ‘Giant Cedar’, an ‘Elder Oak’, a ‘Queen Beech’, and many more!

Come along and meet the Trees, find out more about them, and perhaps enjoy a tree hug or two.

Sunday 20 June – Tune in to a Dusk Chorus in Knavesmire Woods

FULLY BOOKED.

We’ll stroll across the Knavesmire to the Woods and enjoy the musical voices of the Knavesmire birds as they end their day. We’re delighted to be joined by local guide Andy Chapman who will help us the birds by their voices. Andy regularly leads Bird Chorus Walks for the RSPB and has led several Chorus Walks for York Bike Belles as part of our Walk Cycle Festivals.

We are also approaching the celebration of light that is the Summer Solstice. Another reason to come along and enjoy being out and about together at this very special time of year!

Sunday 18 July – Discover the beauty of wildflowers along the riverside

FULLY BOOKED.

Join us for another inspiring nature experience – we’ll learn more about wildflowers, meet new friends and get creative together.

We’ll head south along the riverside from the Millennium Bridge and see what colour we can find in the river banks and meadows.

You’ll be most surprised 🙂

If you can’t make the activities or they are booked up, we’ll be creating a new Nature Time Route for each, so that you can enjoy them in your own time! Do have a look at our existing Nature Time Routes pages.

Practicalities

Group sizes are kept small, currently limited to 12. You can book a place via Eventbrite by clicking on the booking links above. Do email yorkbikebelles@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Check the weather forecast beforehand and wear suitable clothing. Please do not attend if you are unwell. For a ride, bring a roadworthy bike, spare inner tube and working lights.

We try to make all our walks and rides accessible for people of all ages and abilities. Please get in touch if necessary, and we’ll do our best to meet your needs. We ask that you consider travelling to the activity by sustainable transport if you can. All start points are easily accessible by bus or bike.

We will be observing the current Covid-19 government precautions. We trust that you will do the same.

Finally, this is a volunteer-led, unfunded programme, offered free to York residents. We rely on donations and grants to fund our work towards a healthy, green and kind York. Donate here.
